Why does Kids International have a Parent Advisory Board?
One of the hallmarks of a quality early childhood program is an active and supportive Parent Advisory Board (PAB). The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) recognizes the importance of family involvement and the role a successful PAB can play in the development of a strong community of families supporting the center. One of their evaluation criteria for accreditation is the existence of a PAB, or that “(T)he program facilitates opportunities for families to meet with one another on a formal and informal basis, work together on projects to support the program, and learn from and provide support for each other”.

What does the Parent Advisory Board do to support the program?
Many of the things that PAB does is show the teachers who care for our children appreciation through a variety of ways such as bringing in treats near a special holiday as well as a full week in the spring designated as Teacher Appreciation Week. In addition to showing our teachers appreciation, social events are organized by PAB. Last school year, PAB reserved The Magic House just for KI families and covered some of the expense for this special gathering. There were also both mom and dad night’s outs and these are currently being planned for this year so keep an eye out for these upcoming events.
Why does Parent Advisory Board need to have fundraisers?
All expenses incurred by PAB are covered by what is raised during fundraisers. All proceeds from Art to Remember go to the Parent Advisory Board fund. Additionally, the proceeds raised from the upcoming night out at Chevy’s on November 17th will go to Parent Advisory Board. So grab grandmas, grandpas, friends and neighbors to come enjoy dinner at Chevy’s or provide them one of our flyers. In order for PAB to receive the proceeds, our flyer must be presented. If you need any additional flyers than provided or available at Kids International, feel free to request from D. B, or ask for copies at the front desk.
How can I get involved in Parent Advisory Board?
Join in fundraisers and upcoming social events as well as Parent Advisory Board Meetings (one in the fall and two in the spring). Also, if you are willing to assist in Teacher Appreciation Week or have fundraising ideas, contact D.B.
